Big Idea: Our unity is strongest when we refuse to settle for second best, our church pursues the gospel at all cost, and when serving is leadership.

NEVER SETTLE FOR SECOND BEST

1 Corinthians 1:2

2 ‘To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints together with all those who in every place call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, both their Lord and ours: 

1 Corinthians 1:9

9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 

1 Corinthians 1:18

18 For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 

1 Corinthians 1:21

21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe. 

1 Corinthians 1:24

24 but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 

1 Corinthians 1:31

31 so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”

THE GOSPEL AT ALL COST

1 Corinthians 1:10-13

I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers. What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? ‘

1 Corinthians 3:5-7

‘Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. ‘

1 Corinthians 3:11

‘For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.’

SERVING IS LEADING

1 Corinthians 4:3-4

‘But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man’s judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self. For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.’

1 Corinthians 4:10-13

‘We are fools for Christ’s sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised. Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace; and labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it: being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day. ‘

Galatians 5:13

‘For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another ‘
